Commission of a parrot portrait. In exchange for a cage for my one legged parrot Simba, they want a portrait of the parrot which had been it's previous occupant. Just blocking in colors and trying to figure out the best way to paint feathers. It will be an adventure....
Added hair color today, which is sort of a compromise. The model had bright metallic pink hair. Still need to place in the highlights. Did not know if the little blue flowers would work, but seem to be ok, with maybe a glaze of them. Will see on Tuesday morning.
Layer after layer trying to get the skin tones acceptable. The hair is really throwing me off right now. The girl actually has bright metallic pinkish/red hair. Not sure whether to stick with that or go brown.
SOLD - I have done 2 paintings so far based on photographs I took while at Hilton Head. This is a shot I took while standing out in the ocean. Yes, there was no one else around at this time. This painting is regular acrylics on an 8 x 10 canvas.
What is my art? My preferred medium now are oils. I worked years in acrylics since I hate having to spend so much time cleaning brushes and I liked that my paintings are dry within hours. But now all that has changed. I love being able to work the next day in wet paint and the brushes really are no bother.
I love the big massive clouds, marshes, swamps and wild places we have in Florida and what may be hidden within.
My latest works have been mainly portraits. At the Gasparilla Festival of Art where they accepted me as an "emerging artist", there was much interest in my portraits, so I have decided to pursue this a little further.
I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Which by the way, I am the owner of a comic bookstore.
